Epitomising Salsa at its peak: Watershed at Darling Harbour

This is it! This is salsa at its finest. Everyone eagerly looks forward to each Friday Night, the créme de la créme of Sydney's salsa scene magically appear at Darling Harbour's Watershed Hotel.

Within a short space of time, these salseros have inconspicuously blended in with a crowd of evening drinkers admiring the hotel's magnificent water views and city skyline.

However do not be deceived by the seemingly calm, laid back atmosphere. An undercurrent of anticipation is sensed - bodies appear to be straining as they impatiently wait for the first sounds of a salsa rhythm hitting the dance floor.

And as soon as it does, Watershed is quickly transformed into a magical whirl of skirts and shirts, spinning, turning, dipping and burning both the dance-floor in salsa frenzy.

Manning the box is DJ Joachim, one of Sydney's favourite and most loved DJs. Concentrating hard, his fingers race up, down and across the sound machine to belt out the best, hard core salsa music Sydney has to offer.

"It is an awesome place to be and definitely one of the best salsa venues in town!" says Julia, known for her stylish, graceful movements that constantly draw gasps of admiration.

Such movements are shown to perfection in Watershed's outdoor dance area and it is not uncommon to see passers-by stop and stare transfixed.

"There's no comparison to Watershed," says Patrick, the cheeky salsa die-hard and self-proclaimed official photographer of salsa's movers and shakers.

Watch out as Patrick gets those camera shutters working overtime to capture your mesmerising dance moves and captivating smiles!

"I'm so glad I now have every Friday to look forward to," says Tina - no relation to the famous Turner namesake but her spins on the dance floor may make you wonder.

Salseros from all over Sydney place Watershed in a league of its own, with words such as 'welcoming', 'friendly' and 'refreshing' often used to describe the venue.

What makes it all the more exciting is the mix of people it attracts. Everybody from beginners to experts, from watchers to participators can be found joining in with gusto and having a great time!

"Give us another venue that can bring everyone with a love of salsa together, no matter their salsa style or preference!" says a chorus of beaming salseros.
